THE LIST OF USPS HOLIDAYS 2011 - USPS HOLIDAYS 2011, U.S. Postal Service, like many postal operators saw stamped mail continue to decline as users migrate to e-mail and text faces the prospect of being unable to meet its financial commitments unless it reduces its additional staff. The USPS has already introduced measures to reduce termination costs, appear ready to close as many of 2,000 post offices, but even that is not enough to offset the losses now standing at 23 m and a day.
While postal services are still seen as a service of the artery, the growth of digital communications has forced many countries to reduce the size of networks, moving services post office in supermarkets and other outlets and reduce the number of services that were once taken for granted.
The Schoolfield Post will remain open – while being on a list of 491 stations and branches should close by the end of September.
Danville Acting Postmaster General Marvin Young said the confusion over whether the post office next to Ballou Park Shopping Center would close in fact started with a change of name 10 years ago.
Young said that the Schoolfield Post Office was closed a decade ago, when the holders of this office and the branch moved from downtown into the new building on Teal Court – and reopened the next day that the contract Ballou Park Service Unit Zip.
Adding to the confusion is the fact that the building still has a sign on the front that reads “Schoolfield Station.”
U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Cathy Yarosky said the “closure” is actually just catching up on paperwork that should have been done to formally close the Schoolfield Post Office before becoming the Ballou Park Contract Postal Unit.
“The current office Schoolfield at Ballou Park is open and will remain open,” Yarosky said in a statement via email. “The original Station Schoolfield … was suspended in 2000 for companies. Just to “close the books on the old (original) Office and make it officially closed.”
U.S. Postal Service is closing hundreds of branches and stations this year in an effort to recover losses reported $ 8.5 billion in fiscal 2010. In January, Yarosky said no post offices near you – just branches and stations.
